The original Iron Man villain! This petty third-world prison camp dictator captured Anthony Stark after Stark was crippled by a booby trap. (Stark was checking out some of his weapons designs in battlefield use.) He later coerced Stark and noted physicist Professor Ho Yinsen to manufacture weapons for him. Unbeknownst to the tyrant, Stark and Yinsen constructed the original Iron Man armor to save Stark's life from a piece of shrapnel that was lodged near his heart.

Chu's continuity was changed over the years. First, it was revealed that he was a pawn of the Mandarin (IM #267) and most recently he was "resurrected" along with the brain of Professor Yinsen (IM Annual 2000)!
