History: Created thousands of years ago to
serve the group known only as the Masters, Ultimo is responsible for destroying
many space-faring races, including the Rajaki.
The last surviving members of the Rajaki race attempted revenge on
Ultimo, but were unable to defeat the android, who then pursued them to Earth’s
solar system where both eventually crash-landed on Earth; Ultimo landed
somewhere in China.
Untold
years later, the evil Chinese mastermind known as the Mandarin discovered Ultimo,
encased him in a protective blue skin, and reprogrammed the android for use as
a personal weapon. Due to the efforts
of Iron Man, Ultimo was eventually buried in a volcanic explosion. The Mandarin recovered Ultimo and sent him
against the Avengers where Thor buried it within a volcanic crater. The Mandarin yet again recovered the
android, and twice more Ultimo was defeated and entombed in the Earth by Iron
Man.
Sinking
to the Earth’s core, Ultimo burned off the Mandarin’s protective skin and
absorbed untold amounts of thermal energy.
Working his way back to the Earth’s surface, the now 60’ tall Ultimo came
into conflict yet again with Iron Man’s remote-controlled armor, which was
destroyed. War Machine organized an
Iron Legion of individuals wearing old suits of Iron Man armor, but they were
ineffective against the towering behemoth.
Eventually, Tony Stark recovered and defeated Ultimo by shutting down
its neural network.
Stark-Fujikawa
later came into possession of Ultimo, and they turned the now 100’ android into
a power source for a research ship.
Ultimately the android awoke and it took the combined efforts of Iron
Man, Sapper (the sole-remaining member of the Rajaki), his companion
Goldenblade, and Ms. Marvel (then Warbird) to finally shut Ultimo down for
good. The android was subsequently
dismantled.
Abilities: Ultimo’s strength is incalculable,
though its power levels seem to be determined by its size, which has ranged
from 25 feet to 100 feet. Ultimo is
able to draw power from heat sources, and can project disintegrative or
concussive force beams from its eyes.
