Mikas claimed to be a boy
found in Mexico and mutated by the mysterious Mr.
Kline. Mr. Kline sent Mikas to take control
of Marianne Rodgers,
who had foiled the plot of two of his previous operatives, Demetrius and
the Slasher. Mikas
succeeded in making Marianne his pawn, despite her own formidable psychic
powers. Using Marianne as bait, Mikas forced Iron
Man to break out of a prison where he was
being willingly held for crimes accused by Senator
McJavit (actually a robot serving Kline).
Iron Man traced
Mikas and Marianne to his subterranean base, where he was overpowered.Mikas continued to batter
Iron Man to prove
his power, foiling his every attempt at an attack. Eventually, seeing the
man she loved being beaten re-awakened the mind of Marianne Rodgers, and
she broke Mikas' control. Mr. Kline made contact with Mikas and instructed
him to end the battle by slaying Iron Man.
Mikas summoned the Dark Ones
to either kill Iron Man
and Marianne or throw them to Doomprayer (basically
a big snake). IM,
desperate to save Marianne, released all of his armor's remaining energy
(including his life support) in one devastating blast, which brought down
Mikas' base, apparently killing both he and his allies. The
Guardsman I (Kevin O'Brian)
was following a set of instructions to find and help Iron
Man if he didn't report back at regular intervals.
He arrived in time to recharge IM's
armor and save his life. A fragment of a mechanical hand was seen in the
rubble of Mikas' base, indicating that he
may have been a robot.
