Kraken Print E-mail

Commander Kraken gained notoriety when he began sinking ships with his nuclear submarine that was shaped like the legendary kraken; from there came his name. After his defeat at the hands of the Sub-Mariner (Sub-Mariner #27), he joined HYDRA for a while but soon left the criminal organization, taking many brilliant HYDRA scientists with him. He had them perform bionic surgery on him, radically altering his appearance and endowing him with a bionic robotic left hand and a bionic left leg which contained a jet engine. He was also outfitted with an electro-sword.

Kraken kept sinking ships at sea, taking the passengers and crews hostage in his hidden base off the British coast. He brainwashed them into becoming his slaves in order to use them to build advanced warships. When Iron Man stumbled upon this operation, a battle erupted. During the fight, Kraken accidentally damaged the base’s automated systems, thereby triggering an explosion. Miraculously, all present survived and escaped with their lives.

Kraken became a criminal operating in the Great Lakes region until he was shot dead by an operative of the group simply known as Scourge (Captain America #319).

First ever appearance: Sub-Mariner #27.
First IM appearance: Iron Man #93.
