Inferno Print E-mail

Samantha McGee was born in poverty in rural Tennessee, escaping economic deprivation by joining the Air Force and learning to fly. She did not respond well to military discipline, however, and left the service, choosing instead to be self-employed as owner and charter pilot for McGee Charter Service and to be living in the freedom of Canada's under-populated northern territories. Unfortunately, the business was less lucrative than she had hoped, and she never grew used to the harsh weather conditions.

At one point, when staying with new clients of an archeological dig, McGee discovered a door that allowed her to enter the Temple of Balthaak. Touching the blazing brazier of Balthaak, McGee was transformed into the powerful being Inferno and became the first of the Exemplars. She briefly tried to cut a swath of destruction in the area, but was opposed by Iron Man, whose alter ego Tony Stark was a part of the archeological mission. Inferno's creation triggered the emergence of the other Exemplars, who sought out Inferno so they could begin working in accordance to their patron's wishes and bring about war on Earth. Inferno and the Exemplars were ultimately opposed by the Avengers, until they rediscovered their autonomy and escaped.

As Inferno, McGee has been invested with phenomenal power by the extradimensional being Balthaak, in a similar manner that created the nearly omnipotent Juggernaut. Her body has become a reactor for high-energy plasma, capable of producing great amounts of heat and energy and capable of flight.

First ever & IM appearance:  Iron Man vol. 3 #21.
