Chemistro Print E-mail

Calvin Carr, brother of scientist Curtis Carr, got a hold of his bro's "Alchemy Gun" which can transmute any substance on Earth into a different substance! (Curtis explains to Tony Stark that the invention was essentially an accident, that he has never been able to duplicate the process, and that anything transmuted by the gun is inherently unstable and will eventually crumble to dust.)

Nasty Calvin, during the "Acts of Vengeance," allowed the Wingless Wizard to modify the gun into palm-blasters and soon thereafter 'ol Wiz dispatched Chemistro (Calvin) to murder Iron Man! Chemistro was initially successful in stopping IM by turning his armor into lead -- but being paper-thin, the transmutation process merely allowed Tony Stark to easily escape while Chemistro was occupied elsewhere. Later, Curtis gives Iron Man a neutralizer which protects him against his bad brother's attacks. But during the battle, IM's neutralizer shield overloads and Chemistro traps Shellhead in solid steel. But, of course, IM busts free and finally figures out that a tractor beam will smash Chem's palm-blasters.

First ever appearance (Curtis): Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #12; (Calvin): Power Man and Iron Fist #94.
First IM appearance: Iron Man #251.
