Armor Index: Iron Monger
Designed by:
A team of scientists working from notes left by Tony Stark
Worn by:
Obadiah Stane
Appeared:
Iron Man #200
| Design Notes :
Built
similar to the Iron Man Golden Avenger armor, the Iron Monger armor replaced
the molecular-knitting with thick steel alloy plates and protected, articulated
joints. The armor protected the wearer against physical attacks as well as
heat, cold, energy and acid. The armor was mostly computer-controlled. This
gave the inexperienced Stane an advantage over Stark. Upon severing the
connection, the suit froze up, forcing Stane to revert to his cowardly ways. In
the end, Stane chose to deny Stark the satisfaction of truly winning. He turned
the repulsor on himself.
Power source and energy information:
The armor used solar power
to charge the batteries.
Control systems interface:
Cybernetic interface and battle
computer.

Weaponry:
Unibeam (mark 3):
Variable intensity light source. Can be focused for use as a
spotlight or fine focused for use as a laser.
Repulsors (mark 3):
Medium density plasma projectors of the Iron Man (Golden
Avenger) design.
Equipment:
Boot jets:
The armor flies by means of gyro-stabilized turbines that allow the wearer to
maintain an upright position while flying.
Life support equipment:
It is assumed that the mouth and eye holes can be sealed and
it is also assumed that the armor had an air supply of three hours.
Sensors:
Full band tranceiver, both audio and visual.
Notes:
Obadiah Stane was a ruthless businessman who
gained control of Stark International by shifty business and legal tactics, and
by driving Tony Stark deeper into his alcoholism. Upon gaining control, a large
number of Stark's employees resigned, and most of the Iron Man technology was
destroyed as well by Jim Rhodes. Stane did discover a note book containing
Stark's writing, and on the basis of this, assigned his team of scientists to
create his own battle suit, known as the Iron Monger. Though Stane was not
involved directly in the suit testing, the computer hook-up running the suit
allowed the businessman to use it against Stark when the hero arrived in his
new armor to avenge Morley Erwin's death. After besting several of Stane's
challenges, Stark discoverd the hook-up and destroyed the computer link,
removing Stane's advantage. No longer able to fully control the suit, Stane was
easily defeated, but chose to commit suicide rather than be taken in by Stark.
With Stane's death, the armor is owned and controlled by Stark/Stane
International, but nothing is known of its present location.
