(Nov. 2001) "The
Frankenstein Syndrome."Cover
art (guess): Rob Stull. Script:
Frank Tieri. Art: Keron Grant/Rob Stull.
Whose fault is this? Tieri takes a combo of cool and plain dumb
ideas -- the Sentient Armor and
the Sons of Yinsen --
and weaves a story around 'em. As every Iron Fan knew, the stupid move by Tony
Stark (and writer Joe Quesada)
of burying the deceased Sentient Armor
on that deserted isle (with a marked grave, no less) would come back to haunt Iron
Man. And, waddya know? Now it's the time! The SoY's
(Sons of Yinsen) mother ship makes a U.S.
appearance, since they have decided to "disseminate their 'religion.'"
Askew Electronics
comes under attack -- by what looks like the Sentient
Armor! Jocasta
has a fit and disappears, while Iron Man
discovers it is actually Sun Tao
(see Annual
2000) in the armor. Intrigue abounds, as there is a theft of S.K.I.N.,
and then the SoY
appear to reclaim Sun Tao -- all in copies of the Sentient
Armor!! But the biggest surprise of all: the
brain of Professor Yinsen has been integrated
with the actual Sentient Armor
(well, was it really a surprise?). The Prof.
and the SoY
demand the return of Sun Tao -- or it's curtains for IM!
This is also a
"Monster" issue which features reprints of the classic IM
#78 and #140
- 141. These,
along with Tieri's competent handling of the combo of thought-provoking and
ridiculous past plots earns this ish repulsors!
