I don't watch The Office, but I saw part of a movie he was in with Robin Williams and Mandy Moore (NOT BY CHOICE), I forget the name, but I thought he was charming in it.

Maybe he could do it, I don't know.  It's better than a bunch of models (or as my girlfriend would say, "eye candy"), but nothing Earth shattering, nothing that makes me say, "Wow, great casting!"  Like an RDJ or Edward Norton.

Maybe they could shoot some stuff right now, while he's still relatively thin, for the origin scene, then get him bulked up.  Of course, they have about 3 2/3 months to get him BULKY!

I think he'd be great-- he's great on THE OFFICE (where he plays an everyman-- an important quality for Steve Rogers-- really well), and very good in the period piece LEATHERHEADS (so, he can play the past better than some contemporary actors). He's also very good in AWAY WE GO.  He's got the humor and range to do it. He doesn't have the square-jawed quality I associate with Cap, but if this is an origin story, not having that (or having him grow into it) could be effective.

Apologies to The Office fans out there, but I haven't seen an episode.  Honestly, I'm not much of a TV guy.  Anyway, John K. is slowly starting to grow on me (he's tall, 6'3") as Cap, though I still wonder if there's another actor out there.

But here's my philosophy as a director: cast the right person, even if they don't look the part.  Then use your talent as a director, the actor's thespian skills, costuming and make-up, and you'll have the character.  (Case in point: I cast preppy Laura Arias to play punk-rocker Suzy in my film 9:04 AM.  Laura on IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2357765/, Laura as Suzy: http://www.904am.com/photos.php?pic=49 -- but I digress.)

Anyway, here's the IMDb profile on John:

Research time, and thanks to bdog on the qualities of John K. and why he should be Cap.  It's time for us to see if John K. has the chops to pull off Cap!  Here are some films/TV shows we should all check out:

1. The Office (every man, as bdog said).

2. Leatherheads (he pulls off a role in the past well, as bdog pointed out).

3. Away We Go (a great indie, from what I've heard).

I did this back in 2006 when Favs was hired to direct Iron Man.  I watched Elf again and Zathura for the first time, a remarkable film.  After seeing Zathura, I knew he was a great choice.  I also watched Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang with RDJ after he was cast as Stark.

He was very good in the movie with Mandy Moore. I saw that before I got into the office, and was impressed.  I'm on the bandwagon.

Chris Evans (Human Torch from Fantastic Four)?

Didn't I just mention that Krasinski would make a good Johnny Storm?!  Well, not here--I think at the Fox 411 page.

This drawing is cool, and kinda makes me think John K. had a chance:

Chris Evans now looks to be in the running, and John Krasinski isn't.  Maybe it could've been inspiring casting, maybe not.  Who knows now?  Waiting, waiting, waiting...

That's why Colin Ferguson and John Krasinski have my votes.

Ferguson has always had my vote.  But he has about the same chance as I do for getting cast in this role.

If I were casting director:
Older Cap: Colin Ferguson or Mark Valley
Mid-Cap: Captain Awesome
Young Cap: Scott Porter

The problem is they are skewing young and I, truly, believe it will be an epic mistake they will regret when Avengers comes along.  Unless they want to make Captain America play second fiddle to Iron Man.

John Krasinski was the only saving grace left.  These other kids, while maybe fine actors, will get eaten alive by Norton and Downey.  No one will believe this kid has command of a norse god of thunder and a billionaire mastermind.  Sorry.  No.

This movie *WILL* fail.  It may make money, but it will suck and possibly ruin the Avengers.  I wasn't happy about the Thor casting (still not), but I think they are trying to make a good movie.  I have had nothing but bad vibes from this one from moment one.
