Mark 1: The Original Grey Armor Print E-mail
Armor Specs: Mark 1

Nickname: The Original Grey Armor
Designer: Anthony Stark, Professor Ho Yinsen
Worn By: Anthony Stark, Eddie March (IM #300)
Appeared:  Tales of Suspense #39

Design Notes :

Shell Composition :  Semi-rigid interior/3D knitted metallic exterior made from actual, ordinary iron provided protection from physical attacks as well as heat, cold, some energy forms, and acid.

Power Source and Energy Information:  The armor ran on batteries and was able to recharge itself from electrical sources.

Control Systems Interface:  All of the armors systems were manually controlled.

Weaponry:  Monobeam (Mark 1); First portable Proton Beam Generator: useful range was only several yards.

Life Support Equipment:  Pacemaker in the chest-plate.

Boot Jets (Mark 1):  Actually these were just air pressure jets that allowed for very high jumping. Did not provide consistent thrust for true flight.

Equipment:

Suction Cups: They mounted to the knees and hands of the armor enabling it to "stick" to walls and ceilings.

Miniature Buzz Saw:  It is actually more like a hack-saw that extended from the fingertip of the gauntlet.

Electromagnets:  By attaching standard electromagnets to his transistors, Iron Man could increase their effectiveness by a number of magnitudes. This allowed him to literally pull things to him and by reversing the polarity, push things away.

Sensors:  Short-Wave Radio.

Hand Flamer.

Electronic Device Scrambler.

Notes:   Forerunner of them all. Powered by flat linear armature DC motors, the exoskeleton boosted the strength of the wearer by about 10 times. Employed negative feedback motion sensing.

(Thanks to Jason Langlois for his additions!)
