So first off lets take Layton and Michiline off the table because there's no chance of them taking over. Who do you want to take over when Fraction departs?
My first pick is and will always be until I get it Joe Casey. I want Joe Casey to be the new writer. He has the best handle on the character out of anyone who's touched him in the last decade. He has respect for the villains. I think he is the best choice to take over. But that seems unlikely since he won't sign an exclusive contract.
Peter David is my runner up. I think would be a great fit. He deserves a higher profile book and we could really see something on the level of his Hulk run with Iron Man.

Joe Casey would be a really good choice, but like you said unlikely.. Just because I like Hickman, I would really like to see what he could do, but that's even more unlikely.
The Rumor is Kieron Gillen is getting it.

Peter David is my favorite comic writer (his novels are pretty damn funny too), and X-Factor is one of the best reads month after month, but I don't know if he's a good match for Iron Man. His dark humor, tongue in cheek style is not what I imagine an IM book should be. It would be one of the funnier books though. Given PAD's dislike of writing tie-in issues to events, I doubt he would take the job.
While I like Joe Casey and Kieron Gillen, I would have been happy if Christos Gage, current Avengers Academy writer, got the job.

Jonathan Hickman would probably be my first choice. Casey would be great too.

Love the idea of Joe Casey. I agree with everyone's words on him.
Jonathan Hickman is a great idea I hadn't thought of, but I love what he did with Iron Man against Emma Frost in AVX.
The first choice in my head would be Bendis because, despite flaws, he knows how to write an exciting story with new ideas and a DANG AWESOME Tony Stark.

I would love it if the Knaufs could come back and do some more stories.. I'd really love to see what else they could do with Tony and Co.
I have a really strong attachment to Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I would love to see Chris Yost tackle Iron Man's book. His Scarlet Spider and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes stuff was great.

Yost's first season Avengers stuff was horrible to Stark, simply horrible. His Stark comes across as a poser moron.

I didn't have a problem with his Stark/Iron Man, personally. To each their own.

Scarlet Spider is an awesome book. Way better than I expected it to be. I didn't have a problem with his Stark/Iron Man, personally. To each their own.
Overall, neither do I. Although his Stark was too whiny and a little "Fraction like" in the beginning. He got better though.

He comes across as an idiot and a poser. Panther and Pym as the characters treated as legitimately intelligent. Stark's role is to be a poser exposed as such by the story and slapped down for it. I hate the first season.

Iron Man wasn't my favorite on EMH.. I get the whiny comments.. Hawkeye was probably my favorite on the show..

Who should take over? A couple monkeys pounding away on keyboards.
They couldn't possibly write worse Iron Man stories than I've seen lately.
