Trolling around the internet late at night I've refound my friends and realized my age.  I was one of the first contributors to AI 20 years ago when I was at college at USC.  I did some art for Egan's Iron Fan and he used one of my sketches for AI.  Back then Advanced Iron was a mailer that was supposed to get the latest info out before the next ish of Iron Fan.  We were always challenged getting the mag out no matter who had the helm but it was soooo much fun and great people were always involved.  Later I wrote a column called Virtual Iron fantasizing about an Iron Man video game.  I did my own fan comic take on what Tony Stark's daughter might have done if she was bequeathed the mantle (M.I.N.X.) I think was the last thing I did.  Then a few years ago I found this site just before the first Iron Man movie.  I found time somehow to do a sketch for old time sake and it was a blast.  I got my Advanced Iron T-Shirt and wore it proudly on opening day (saw the movie 5 times in 24 hours with that shirt on).  I am so happy to see you guys carrying the mantle.  Advanced iron is the greatest fanzine on earth.  Keep the flame!

Probably not. Iirc they were for core contributors to the zine. IMJ would know for sure, he's the one who made them happen.

And Bart, it's nice to see you back. Hopefully you'll get to see a new issue by the 20th anniversary.

This was an orchestrated effort where we did a group buy on some relatively quality shirts that each had our custom handle on the back.  Basically each shirt was a custom job and not a mass order.  From the order's total cost, those of us who were involved all contributed towards a shirt for Favreau, which I'm positive that he received, although to be honest I don't remember if I ever heard from him about it or saw him wearing it in an interview or anything.

It was a great project though and one of 3 Advanced Iron exclusives that I had in mind.  I never moved forward with the other 2 unfortunately. I suppose we still could someday, but as far as collectibles go, they would've blown the A.I. shirts out of the water. Wink

Thanks for asking about this though!

I still have an interest in it to be honest. Maybe once we get AI 75 published, and I'd also need to get in touch with Sean Chen again - I don't think I have his contact information anymore.

I was 25 in 1993 and probably didn't know what "interenet" was at the time.

Ditto. Worn to most comic-related movies without fail.

That's actually pretty awesome that you guys still wear 'em. Smiley  I usually wear mine if I go to a convention as press,  but I haven't done that in a few seasons now.

I once wore mine to take a final.  It was a few years ago and an accident.  It was one of my last finals, and I woke up late, so I just grabbed a shirt and ran out the door.  It wasn't until I was on the road that I realized it was my AI shirt.  Other than that, I have only wore it to one screening each of IM, IM2, and Avengers.

Ya, it's more like an cultural event thing. I don't see myself wearing it out to the bar or something... LOL!
