*sigh*

I knew this was coming, really.  Like a car wreck you can't avoid or that train bearing down on you.

Consider yourself spoiled, btw.

Marcus Johnson? the new Agent Fury.  His best bud? Agent Coulson.  Yup, both of them in the Main Marvel Universe.  Marvel even thinks they're being cute.  I doubt seriously this will last, or even be referenced in the future unless it's an editorial command from above.

I so should have seen this comming around issue #4, but I didn't for a second think they go this route. I love ultimate Fury the way he is & for those who keep abreast of the Ultimates universe, he's an a$$hat. Yeah, he's genuinely NOT a sweet guy, even goes as far as manipulation & cold blooded murder (how else do you get to be top of the biggest spy agency in a "realistic" world?). He's been a hero, but he's also been a driving force behind almost everything that went down, right to the death of Spiderman. (yeah his fingers are in EVERYTHING) I know that to bring him into the "light" of 616 required softening him up to make him likeable to readers unfamilar with the Ultimate universe. I also think making him "Son of Fury" was a bad move. I was rooting for Marcus right up until about 2-3 pages before the end of issue #5 (yeah you know what I'm talking about), & never realised who his buddy Cheese was supposed to be. I feel like a world class sucker.

Newsarama's Interview with Brevoort on the new Fury thing.

Or: How lame can Marvel get?

Agent Coulson being added to the Marvel U is cool. Making him young so he'll be more to the likings of a younger reader is not cool. Neither is Marcus Johnson/Nick Fury Jr. It's a shame no one gets or knows what to do with the original Nick Fury anymore at Marvel.
