I'm not surprised. Their big enemy, Krang, is an alien. Movies like to simplify things. Hence Stark's arc-reactor being the power-source of all his villains. Making them aliens allows the origin story and the introduction of Krang to be all one simple thing.

So basically under Bay, the TMNT are actually going to be hundreds of years old, superior to human fighting style aliens....

The only way this can even be half-way decent (outside of blocking Michael Bay from touching it) is if the "alien" part is the goo that transforms the turtles to begin with. 

But in a world where environmental consciousness is an issue in most people's mind ... I don't understand how they can't tell a story involving bad companies and environmental issues which stays closer to the source material AND focuses on a hot-button issue.

Michael Bay should never be allowed to touch another franchise again.
