Both are must reads for IM fans.  Bendis has got Tony's personality down (especially in Avengers #24) by making him confident, funny, smart, and badass (he takes down a bunch of ninjas in one shot and figures out how to defeat Osborn) at the same time.  Damn, I really wish he wrote the IM solo book.  This Iron Man is a character I want to read more about.

I keep telling people that Bendis writes a good Tony, but they are so stuck some of the crappy work he's done in the past, they just cant get around it. Bendis is SO much better at writing Tony than Fraction, i would have NO problem with Bendis writing IIM.

I got to read the Avengers scripts a couple months back, and I was waiting for this issue to come out for exactly the reasons you state. Most of the time, Bendis writes Tony Stark as he's meant to be.

I can't wait to get my hands on Assemble #1, I love the stories Brian puts out like Ultimate Spidey, New Avengers, and all the rest except his creator owned stuff because my local comic shop (which is in another town by the way) doesn't carry them or more expensive.

I really wasn't a big fan of New Avengers but I've really been digging Avengers. And despite that it's been crapped on all the comic review sites I really had fun with it.

I've argued since New Avengers v1 #1 that Bendis' Iron Man was one of the best in years.  I'd love to see him on the book too...

I can never forgive him for retconning an employee into being the main mind behind the armor, knowing more about that armor than Stark, and being able to shut it down effortlessly. Bendis also retconned the ending of Civil War. In the original ending, Cap realized he had lost the argument and surrendered for that reason. The idea was that Stark had been right all along, even if he had gone to overly harsh methods to enforce that correct view. Bendis has Cap retconned into being right by having him have the stronger sounding argument, having Stark have no answer to that argument, and conceding that it wasn't worth it, even having Stark admit he was the villain. Bendis is also who had every single idea Stark had blow up in his face, making him the reason the Skrull invasion happened, and why it succeeded. And he even effectively castrated Stark in his Ultron story, Stark's fate clearly showing his contempt and desire to laugh at Stark. Hate Bendis. ****ing hate him.

Avengers Tony is far from perfect but it's still the best Stark we've seen for several years now.   I'm more disappointed with the Bendisized Dr. Strange, especially since he was handled much better as a guest in Daredevil.

I've been saying for years Bendis has the character right and gives Stark FAR more respect in his books than we've seen anywhere in the last five years. Smart, witty, funny, confident, intelligent, all the main characteristics of Stark can be found when Bendis writes him. Too bad he's not on the main title instead of the hack we have...

Given how Bendis has written Stark, I wouldn't be surprised if editorial liberties were behind that. After all, they did their best to make sure Cap's side was right the whole time

Agreed on the portrayal of Tony in Avengers #24, and Bendis portrayal of Tony overall.  The line, "Genius here who no one ever listens to!" is a modern classic.
