When Waid promised to bring back Batroc, even tongue-in-cheek, before he went back to Captain America in late 97/early 98 (Heroes Return), I was like, "Meh."
Me, I like the weird obscure characters.

There are FOUR Avengers titles? FOUR?!
Right that is, my friend. Avengers, New Avengers, Secret Avengers, and Avengers Academy. Ha. And they wonder how it's tough for new readers.

Only the main Avengers seems to be strong right now, and I love the new series. Marvel's done this a few times now, but it's still surprising to see DC attempt it. Man, IM, Thor, Cap, and Avengers started off sooo great with Heroes Return, but, after a couple years things got bogged down again and old numbering 1st reared its ugly head. Yes, i know the 'Return' wasn't an actual reboot of everybody, but as far as Iron Man is concerned --this is an IM fan site after all-- after the whole Crossing mess, then teen Tony, and the Reborn stuff, it was nice to see that for the most part, that all didn't matter and no need to worry about it again, The real-deal Tony was back. My point with the DC relaunch tho (before i get too off track again) is that I'm not a fan at all of DC, i have like 6 various DC comics -mostly freebies) but I get that, if I personally wanted to get into some Batman comics, or if the Green Lantern movie is soooo good, I want to get some GL issues, it will be a great jumping on point to do so. While long time fans might be very upset, and yes and i understand, -I didn't care for the Extremis Tony re-imagining) but's it's still the same hero, just a modern up-to-date, new background version of them.

While I agree that the relaunched adjective-less Avengers book is good, I'd go out on a limb and say that Christos Gage's Avengers Academy is a much better book, at least in terms of being more well-rounded- healthy dose of character development balanced with action & drama. If you know anything about the core cast of the book, I get the feeling that Gage's trying to channel a little early X-men era Stan Lee.

Agreed. Academy does have a very Lee/Kirby X-Men vibe, which is one of its strengths. It's a good book, well worth the read each month.

I've read some of it, and I'm not a fan. It's not a team, to me.

Of the 4 Avenger books, I think New Avengers is the only weak one. The lineup is ok, but the stories have ranged from underwhelming to just ok. Secret Avengers reads more like a Steve Rogers book than a team book, but it is still a solid read each month, and I look forward to it a lot more than New Avengers. Brubaker really made Steve Rogers the focus, but new writer Nick Spencer may change all of that.

I got to say ... I really don't like Superman's new look. It was too classic to change up.

That's what I thought too. I was pleasantly surprised that he was able to escape from whatever dungeon Todd McFarlane kept him chained up in. He and David Finch both have a real hand-in-glove fit for depicting the Dark Knight.

I think part of it was the whole relaunch thing... DC should have just waited for the relaunch before starting Finch's The Dark Knight.
