I still think the better bet for new fans would be to go back to the past... the movies seem to be pulling stuff from both the Michelinie/Layton runs (with JRJR and Doc Bright) and the Kaminski/Hopgood era, along with some newer stuff.

The problem with that is that a lot of that stuff hasn't aged amazingly and might be harder for a more modern audience to get into.
