After a noticeable absence, Bob Layton's website was recently updated and features plenty of goodies, including the announcement of his & David Michelinie's latest projects "Iron Man: Forever" and "What If... Tony Stark Became Dr. Doom."

Nice. I like the sound of both.

Though the "What If" I would really want to see is would actually take place in the Age of Apocalypse universe, where if Stark escaped from Apocalypse using his tech to build the armor, instead of using scraps and escaping from Wong Chu. He would then take the armor to Europe where humans would have Iron Man armors instead of Sentinels. But that's a pipe dream. I trust Bob and Dave to make that What If a really good one.

The key words here are, "I trust Bob and Dave".  Their track record of knowing what the heck they're doing instantly instills me with confidence that any project they take on will have all the requisite elements of a good comic book story.

Exactly.  Although they've made a bit of a stinker with Iron Man: The End I still have faith that they can do the character and the story he's in justice considering how well Bad Blood and other projects they've done turned out.

Personally, I'd prefer it if we never spoke of "Iron Man: The End" again.

I didn't think The End was bad. Not epic by any means, but I don't think it warrants the criticism it sometimes gets.

I have wanted to go back and read it again because Dave & Bob more than deserve a second chance.  I wanted some space from it since I was so disappointed when it came out.

David and Bob's version of Iron Man 2 is what made me nearly faint!

Btw, I liked Iron Man: The End; definitely not their best, but not their best is better than recent Iron Man creators' best.
