I figured we were going to be seeing some really simplified versions of the new armor design from various artists and JRJr's drawing here looks like it might be our first example. I too liked his blocky version of the Neo-Classic but I'm not thrilled with his work here especially since I was just excited about how streamlined the new armor is supposed to look. Iron Man is going to probably end up looking vastly different in every comic outside his title but I guess that's nothing new.
This still might not be intended to be the same armor but I have a feeling it is. I'm waiting to see the new suit in action in Iron Man #25 still. We haven't seen it from that many angles yet.

It would be nice if those ports are there for more than just decoration, but I doubt it.

A lot of people try to make sense of them, be they weapons ports, repulsor emmiters etc. But I think those theories are negated by the fact that there are LED's on the inside of the ankles. Thats about the last place you would put any kinf of weapon or thruster.

Fraction worked with one of the designers on the movie suits to come up with this suit. That goes a little way towards suggesting that those items have some purpose for being there. I'm not crazy about the design myself, and I think they stepped too far away from the existing movie suits, and way too early.
They have been hyping that the suit has some new abilities though, so we'll see what the justification is for this new suit's design...

It's always seemed to me that the armor shouldn't have unneccessary lens' on it anywhere. They are more vulnerable than an armored piece of the outer shell, and seem unneccessary. That's also why I've always been a fan of having an iris over the repulsor lens'. I was also hoping to see a neat effect using an iris over those in the movie as well...

I suppose they could be used for energy absorption; I also have some fuzzy recollection of Tony being low on power but managing to use the unibeam's lens to deflect stuff.

Anyone notice that this new armor is very similar to the one used in the recent "Next Avengers" animated movie? Check out the awesome scene where Tony fights Ultron in the forest...

I am very PRO Adi Granov design. He makes the suit plausable realistic. While many comicbook does not have any logic joint movements pivoting points.

I haven't read #25 yet, but from the post's it seems that the entire suit extrudes from his body now. So basically they made Extremis more extreme. This does bring up 2 issues though, volume & mass. There's no way there's enough unused space in the body to store the suit in. And if you could figure out a way to cram it all in he would weigh 450 lb's all the time. This has to be murder on his furniture & shoes. He must have to replace his Italian loafers every other month. Plus with those heavy footfalls you'd hear him coming from a mile away. The only way I see around those problems is if Tony's finally achieved the alchemists dream of transmutation & is actually turning his body into the armor with his skin becoming the shell & his eyelids the viewport lenses & so on. I realize that with comics you're supposed to be able to suspend your disbelief. But come on, Extremis was already something I wasn't comfortable with, this is just a bridge too far.

This was exactly what I was thinking. Extremis was bad enough but this is even more unrealistic. I guess he'd be having knee problems and other obesity-related issues if he could store 200 lbs. worth of armor in him.

well in the first movie you have this effect in the afghanistan scene in gulmira I don't recall an iris opening and closing over the repulsor lens' in that scene. I do remember them winding down, but I thought the light was only dimming down rather than there being an iris on the gauntlet lens.
