A War Machine armor is guaranteed, if not in the first film, then later on.
The WM armor would be a treat to see on screen, but honestly I've never thought of that suit as a "movie culminating" piece. It's a cool suit, but in the scheme of things, it's just really hard armor with lots of guns. The War Machine armor never struck me as a "come in and save the day suit." Although I'm sure the action scenes would be amazing with the thing on film, it's just that the War Machine isn't Starks "ultimate" and most capable armor. It's just the one that people remember easily because it stood out..... And truthfully, Kaminski seemed to be the only writer who ever really put that armor through it's paces, I think. The Masters of Silence arc was just awesome.

The Masters of Silence was a good arc, Mr. IMJ. One more thing that contradicts your opinion, is that the WM armor has always struck me as a "save the world" suit. I'm sure a lot of people would love to see a black and silver savior with guns on his shoulders come on in and kick the villain's butt, and save them from impending doom. At least, I would feel safe with the War Machine protecting me from danger. Maybe I just like seeing guys in black armor kick a$$ or something. On the other hand, I don't want everyone who's unfamiliar with IM to think that the standard Iron Man is just a black and silver guy with guns. Stark is a futurist, who uses directed-energy armaments, not the terminator!

But, my point was simply that the War Machine armor is not the apex of Starks engineering. It was designed with destruction and firepower in mind, but what I'm getting at is that it's great for military or Earth based foes, but unless upgraded with different armament, I can't see it going to far against some really heavy powered bad guys is what I'm getting at. ....Hulk bullets or something.... although Starks nanites didn't work to well, but you get the idea.

I agree the WM isnt a "come in and save the world" armor. But's it's a "beat the ever loving hell out of everything" kind of armor, something we had never seen before. Stark always built the suits balanced, this was meant just to wreck ****, and wreck **** it did.
Face it, it was really the first time we saw Stark go in with guns blazing, and the intent on just decimating anything that came into his path. The armor, and his mentality werent typical Stark, and I think that is what made it so great.

I hope they show the transition between the armors well, you know what I mean? That they show the evolution of armor and not just have it so it's BAM! He's in one suit of armor in one fight scene, then he's in a different one the next without much explanation or point.

That would be my primary concern. I hate movies where something changes so spontaneously that I can't tell what the hell just happened. An example would be Click. At first, the setting of time was 2006, then it was 2007, then 2017, then 2023, then god knows what else. The time zones kept changing so fast that I couldn't adapt to what was going on. I'm hoping that there are at least a few scenes where Stark is building newer armors, just to show the transition.

I could see the VTRB (aka War Machine Armor- sorry like the acronym and the whole variable threat response thing) and could see Favs sneaking it in in the background late in the movie as a mil-spec Terrorist Response and Hostage Rescue unit. Just an (sneaky) idea though.
As far as the Mark II we've heard there would be a general purpose suit and a weapons-platform so maybe the Mark II is the VTRB or it could be that the Mark III we've seen is the weapons platform and we'll see something sleeker, along the lines of the "classic armor" for the Mark II.
I'm trying to remember, do we have any official confirmation that the pic we have is in fact the Mark III and not the Mark II? Could Favs or ET sown a little disinformation to keep us guessing?

Possibly. We really didn't find out about whether or not that armor's the Mk. II or not.

War Machine (with Rhodey in it) has to be a huge scene in IM2. Guns blazing and saving the day via hundreds of thousands of perfectly wasted ammuniation and unruley demoliton - you know, what John McClain calls Thursdays!! YEEEHA!! Remember, Stark isn't fighting the Hulk in this, he's fighting "real-world" villains, so the ammunition can remain ballistic and still kick ass.

That would be the ultimate scene. I think they should have Justin Hammer and the Masters of Silence in it though, just to make it more consistent. Just think, Tony in the WM VTRB, shooting the Masters of Silence! That would make my day!

Yeah, it would make the Mark III look like Iron Man forgot the formula of how to produce magnetically tesselated shape memory alloys.
Yeah, that's what I've been saying....it's much more cooler looking and realistic if you know the mechanics of it.

I would LOVE to see the classic armor on the big screen someday. It's totally the best version ever. As a matter of fact,I read in an issue of Wizard Magazine that the director himself said that it'd be really cool to see that armor on screen. Perhaps we might see it someday after all.......
