I got a box of scraps. And guess what's inside it?

Came across a modernized-looking armor that will hopefully feature in Iron Man: The End later this year.

I must say I like it; very MKIII-esque.  My only (and continual) gripe?  The faceplate's mouth.

This isn't new.  Layton apparently hasn't updated his site in quite a long time.  That concept is likely the art concept drawing of June.

New in a relative sense then; in any case what do you think of it?

I dont mind it but from that sketch it doesnt look like anything special. Maybe when the drawing is rendered fully it might look a lot cooler.

There is a redesign coming that is slated for August, so I think it is June's thats still up.

Not a fan of the newer concept, though I like the original one. I think the infatuation needs to stop with the extremis armor by Marvel. It seems like every armor now has to be influenced in some way by the style of the current armor. It's making things boring.

The new design does suck a lot.  The older version is easier on the eyes if you ask me.

The older design bugs me (and anything other than the modular and tin man-onwards) because of two things:  non-articulated joints and/or the mouth opening, which I have ranted about before.  Then again, as an engineering student I define good armors in terms of their "realism"

I studied engineering originally in college (really hated it). I was becoming like that too, but I realized all it did was take the fun out of things. I learned to just go with it ignoring how real it was. Plus, the universe is full of mutants and gods, so realism shouldnt be much of priority  Tongue

Right.  Sure, Iron Man's armor admittedly isn't the most realistic thing you've ever seen, but then again, most fictional beings in all of today's forms of entertainment aren't "realistic" either.  I like to do what you do Dynamonger myself.  I occasionally criticize fictional characters myself, but in the end I don't let my own knowledge of physics bog me down and prevent me from enjoying what I like.

But the Modular looks like painted on spandex... not that I'm arguing, the Modular might just be my favorite Iron Man armor ever.

I liked this design better than the final version they did use for "The End" which is boring except for the interesting transformation stuff. Kind of Layton's wet dream there having all the specialty armors in one. Though I'll agree with you on one design thing I prefer the closed mouth look better too.
