The Hulk fell off a bit from Friday night, which is usually a common thing with movies.  Kids movies go up on Saturdays from Friday, but it should be noted Iron Man almost ALWAYS went up on Saturdays, which isn't so common.  Iron Man, btw, will make $300 million by Sunday or Monday, maybe Tuesday at the latest.

She reports $55M as a flop.

I expected close to $70M, but $55 puts it on track to recoup the costs.  Word of mouth has been positive, and I think with this type of movie ... that's going to push it forward.  I think people were reluctant simply because of the original Ang Lee bomb.  Good word of mouth will get people out the door.

It's also out during a particularly busy movie season. The Hulk is in competition with all the other hero movies out this summer (Iron Man, Hancock, Hellboy2, Dark Knight).

I think a lot of people are just being a bit wary about it after the last one. Once the word of mouth gets out (and I have yet to speak to anyone who hasn't liked it...it's well-made), I think it will do well enough.

I'm kind of surprised it did this well. I figured the stigma of the first movie would hurt the draw a lot more than it did.

A little better than half of Iron Man's week 1...
What I think really hurt Hulk was the Happening. A lot stiffer competition for Hulk than Iron Man had for its first 3 weeks straight, plus Kung Fu Panda and the Zohan from last week...
