I got a box of scraps. And guess what's inside it?

« on: June 03, 2008, 03:30:40 PM »

Today marks the second time in the same year that my AC adapter/charger for my laptop has 'burnt out,' while it can supply AC power just fine to my laptop it cannot charge the DC battery.  And according to my laptop diagnostics, the battery is just fine.  The adapter in question is a 65W Dell AC Adapter, I believe that's what it's named.  It's still covered under warranty, but I'm getting utterly frustrated with it.

Alas, for this query would better be suited in a forum titled 'Inferior Tech.'  But I can draw a parallel to ol' Shellhead at least; he and my laptop are/were dependent on constant recharging, lest it's lights-out for good

It's a Dell Latitude D630, and as stated above it's a Dell-made 65W AC Adapter

Hmmm...that's just odd.  I have a Dell Insprion laptop, and I've used the same AC Adaptor for over 4 years now without fail.

that is pretty much the  same laptop my little brother has

he had a AC adapter he ran over with the wheels on a chair and damaged the cable.... so we went and bought another one, and it worked fine until he dropped the ac adapter.... then it started malfunctioning again

i say get a new AC adapter and keep it up well, and hope you dont get any damage

Well as it turns out this time, it's not the adapter - there's a small chip cracked off on my adapter port on the motherboard.

The good news?  It's still under warranty, so I can get this fixed at no additional cost.

Before I'm accused of thread necromancy...f***ing charger burnt out again, and just as my internship is ending.  thank god this can still run off of battery power.
Damn, I am tempted just to ditch this POS laptop and get a new one, I could get something with twice the stuff at half the price in this recession...

I've got a Dell Inspiron and it works just fine, adaptor and all.  I think the Inspiron's probably a much more reliable model than what you have.
