So how many War Machine armors have there been?

(artwork by Ronnie Thunderbolt)

1. Original worn by Tony
2. James' War Machine armor (addition of the unibeam plus other modifications)
3. Eidolon Warwear
4. US War Machine and variants
5. Version from "The Crew" (ok all we really got to see was a helmet and the gauntlet)
6. Baintronics "evil" War Machine
7. Sentinel trainer
8. Current Initiative War Machine

I've always thought it made more sense that the original VTRB that Tony wore and the one Rhodey wore were the same armor, just moded by Tony... Has it ever been made clear that they are, in fact, two different models?

I agree with this as well.  Also, I'm not sure that you can say that the components shown in The Crew were different armor....

I agree that Tony's version and Rhodey's initial version are both the same suit.  When Rhodey was wearing it,  he just had a unibeam and a modular weapons pack to store his shoulder weapons added on to what Tony used to use IIRC.

Would it be reasonable to assume the current War Machine armor (Avengers Initiative) has capabilities similar to that of the current Extremis Iron Man Armor (minus of course the powers derived from Extremis)?

I would assume.  Stark built powerful Argonauts with capabilities so great, that Iron Man could only beat them with knowledge of their weaknesses.  Tony could have studied the enhancements to his armor like he did Spidey's Spider-sense, and could have possibly incorporated those improvements to the design.

Thanks man, but I have no idea what I'm looking at in that picture.  Is Rhodey supposed to be in that armor or something?

You did your best Ronaldo.  Unfortunately, I also do not know who's in that armor.

Yes, following his stint with Sentinel Squad O*N*E*, James Rhodes became one of the chief instructors at the new Initiative training facility.
