Hey guys...

Been visiting Advanced Iron for years, and decided to go from lurker, to poster Smiley
I have a question for you all. Would love anyone and everyone to put in there 2 cents worth.

Whats your favorite amour design? And why?

Over the years Tony has built many suits, but there is only one Iron Man. Each suit really symbolized different eras in Tony's life. Which speaks to you?

Interested in whats your thinking...

I've always been enamored of the Silver Centurion armor.  It was a departure from the red and gold that had been the standard for decades, and it had somewhat of a samurai feel to it, which I thought was very cool at the time.  I felt the radical change was very apropos at a time when Tony Stark was reassessing his role in the world, both as a hero and as a human being.

Of course, ask me that same question in a month, and I might have a different answer.

Oh, and welcome to the forums! Smiley

Hey, Ice - thanks for "de-cloaking" Smiley

I'm partial to the classic, but I think that's mainly due to how Bob Layton drew it and the technical details that he and Micheline infused into the stories.

Thanks for he welcome.

I was going to post up my felings first, but then desided against it, cause I wanted to see what was put out there. he fact that two of the biggest board members came up with the same feelings, and same armour, as myself is really humbling.

The Silver Centurion armor will always be Iron Man in my book. And the storys and tone of that era really defined what Iron Man was about. At least from me.
Off the top of my head, I can pull out a handful of story events that really shaped what Iron Man was about.

- Iron Monger
- Rhodes putting back on the IM amour and being burned, vowing he would never put it on again!
- Every month, a major development at SI.
- Ghost killing Spy master
- Armour Wars

All thesse events went on to have some of the biggest effects in Tony's life.

I remember grabbing an issue of the rebooted Iron Man, and getting very excited when seeing Iron Man make his statement to the press about Stark Solutions. It had the same feel as the Silver Centurion, but in a handful of issues later, missed what made this book great.

I am really excited to see IM come to the big screen. I just wish it was as the Silver Centurion. What a great era in storytelling. Wicked design.

How come theres no Silver Centurion statues or busts...

There was an unlicensed statue of the Silver Centurion being peddaled for a while on e-bay last year. It was decently done, though I felt a few details could've been done a little better. I never got one due to cash inadequacy issues. My favorite suit is the Layton era neo-classic. And my choice is based strictly on looks alone. Though the Heroes Return/Renaissance armor is my 2nd fav due to the neo-samurai look that's more pronounced than it is for the Centurion.

The Classic armour holds a high place with me, due to its brillaint simplistic design and weaponary, with the Renaissance armour coming in second and the the Silver Centurion armour third but i've fallen in love with the extremis armour.

I like its more armoured look and what it can do, though its been around at a rough point in Tony's life (civil war) it got him through it and just keeps getting better and better. That said the classic armour's appearance in Iron Man 26 has been a delight!! Obsolete it may be but it still looks mean as hell! I'm also partial to Iron Man 2020's armour as a take on the classic suit!

This is a really hard question....

Any chance you grabbed a pic of the statue?
I'd love to see whats been done before.
Might have to get around to sculpting something myself!

I have always loved the look and desighn of the stealth armor. Even more now since they have been able to modernize the armor.

P.S Does anybody know what Color the Stealth Armor is?

I've always considered it black.  Blue is (or at least was) a highlight color in comics.  Superman's hair had blue as a highlight in it.  If you look at the initial appearance of Spider-Man, his costume was red and black and the blue was a highlight.  That quickly changed, due mostly to speed issues (spotting all those blacks takes time), so the blue eventually overpowered the black and we wound up with Spider-Man having a red and blue costume.

My first favourites were the silver centurion and the neo-classic armours because they facilitated my introduction to the character (I'm still nostalgic for each of them). My favourite armour today is the extremis armour, although that depends on the artist's rendition of it as it differs somewhat from one penciler to the next.

And that's why I think it sucks, because it can't be drawn with any consistency.  I decided to draw my own rendition of the armor recently, and every reference I pulled for it was different than the last, which made drawing it a bit of a nightmare.

It isn't drawn with much consistency by differing artists, but that is their doing and not a flaw in the design. It could be drawn with consistency if there was some editorial direction there, but different artists have intentionally presented their own take on it when given the opportunity to draw the character. When I think of the armor it is normally Granov's original depiction that comes to mind.

Anyway, I was simply answering the question about which armour is a favourite. I know not everyone will agree with someone else's specific preferences.

I agree, and what you note represents one of the problems I see with comic art today.  Editorial should have a character style guide created, and it should have to be followed, not to stifle the creativity of the artist, but to internally remain consistent in the character's appearance across an ever-expanding range of titles.  I think a lot of artists today feel the need to put their own particular stamp on a character, possibly to draw more attention to themselves in a "Look what I did!" manner.

Hey, welcome to the boards as a non-lurker!

I'd have to go with the Classic Red & Gold, since I was introduced to Iron Man just prior to Dave & Bob's first run. There really isn't an armor I don't like, but that's dependent on the artist's interpretation.

As far as a Silver Centurion bust, there is one available in one of the two three-pack of mini-busts that were recently rreleased by Bowen Studios.
