So there has been a lot of information coming out regarding the Iron Man 2 card set. As many of you will recall, Rittenhouse published the set from the first movie but that set wasn't without it's flaws. While the set did have a nice share of insert cards, the ratio for sketch cards was pretty crummy (I bought quite a few boxes and didn't pull a single sketch card) and the standard set was really lacking both in exciting card images and in any real way that followed the story through the set.
I'm hoping that Upper Deck will fair better with the license than Rittenhouse did. I've got a lot of sketch card images that I'll start posting late tonight to create some excitement for the set. I am disapointed to say though that some of the sketch cards have nothing to do with Iron Man (Silver Surfer sketches in an Iron Man 2 movie set.... huh?). It also turns out that Upper Deck forbid it's artists to actually draw any of the characters movie likeness, although they encouraged artists to draw many random Marvel Universe characters. So what this means is that you won't see a great looking RDJ as Stark sketch, or a Scarlett J Black Widow in the sketch cards at all. This is pretty ridiculous if you ask me, but I'm still happy to have another Iron Man set.
While I compile sketch images for later tonight, what are your plans for picking these cards up? I'm on the fence - I'd like to pack-pull autos and sketches, but I spent a fortune on the first set and I think it might actually be cheaper to buy a set and inserts on eBay rather than building 25 sets from cases while barely landing any chase cards. I also don't want to chance opening an Iron Man pack and being excited at finding a sketch card only to pull a Thor villain in an Iron Man set.

Excellent scans. I've been following this for a while and actually know a number of artists on the set. I even found out by a couple of artists that they added a little something specifically for me on the card. So, I'm going to have to see if I can hunt them down by checking all the sources that sell cards!
I understand why UD doesn't like to have the likeness' of the people from the movie on a sketch card because that it takes extra long to get the approval of the actor/actress. Marvel and UD can't approve the likeness of the cast, it actualy has to approved by the actor/actress, and trying to track down some of them can't be a real chore.
I also bought a case of IM1 from Rittenhouse Archives (RA) and only got 3 sketch cards. Now, RA stated that there would be 3-4 sketch cards per case so even though I knew that it wasn't worth buying the case.....in terms of the whole value. I believe this new release by UD will have one sketch card per box, plus a chance at other chase cards. Even with that, I'm going to buy what I'm looking for instead of opening a bunch of boxes/cases. I think it will be better in the long run, even though it's fun to open the boxes.
Ttyl, Tim

Our own Bill Meiggs got a hold of me the other day and sent me pix of all of his sketch cards for the set! I'll have to get those posted here soon! For those of you who don't know, Bill was one of the early contributors to Advanced Iron - you'll see his name on many of our Advanced Iron back issues. Now he's working on the official Iron Man movie set as a sketch card artist! WOOT!!
