so am i the only one who enjoyed this issue as well as secret invasion as a whole?
I'm with Mateus here. I really enjoyed following the whole of SI and found the final
issue to be a fine ending. I didn't know what Dark Reign was truly going to be until
I read this issue. So the reveals totally worked for me. I'm keen on what happens
next, so it's a success in my book. Sure, I'm frustrated by all the crap that Stark has
been through over the last few events; it's NOT rewarding to see him take the blame,
but I want to know what he does to fix it. Bendis pretty much admits in the Spotlight
interview that the bad guys got him good. He was set up for this fall. So what now?
This story is just getting started, and I'm interested to see where it takes him. The
fact that Stark was the original guy to say, 'we need to protect ourselves from
invasion' back in the first Illuminati appearance makes it gut-wrenching that he's
left taking the blame; when the others wouldn't support him when he warned of it.
I actually have more faith in Bendis' treatment of Stark than I do of Fraction at the
moment. Bendis does a great Stark, from the start of New Avengers, throughout
Illuminati, I was getting a better, truer Stark in the Avengers books than I was in
his own book. It's the OTHER writers I'm worried about. Think of all the tie-in issues
throughout and post Civil War; it was a real crap-shoot if they were going to get him
even close to correct ('will they treat him like a wimp or a full-on villain this time').
I was not a fan of the Zeb Stane arc that rebooted the Invincible Iron Man series,
in spite of all the alleged 'critical acclaim'. He has Stark behaving in ways that are
leaving me a bit 'repulsed'. It seems to me that Fraction believes he's adopted a
character that is 'unlikable' and morally questionable and he's writing that into his
Stark. That's not who Stark is, and it's not what Millar or Bendis had intended for
him when they put him in these circumstances. I'd actually feel better if Bendis
was handling the direction on the post Secret Invasion Stark, but in lieu of that,
I'm just hoping for the best and that Fraction will handle this one decently well.
The Knaufs would have had this current 'on-the-run' angle nailed, it's too bad we
don't have them around for this one. But enough lamenting...
Marvel has a modern grasp on the serialized nature of comics and they are bringing
it to new heights. I'm really digging the whole of the Marvel Universe right now as a
result, and to their credit. So you'll get a 'Go Marvel' from me on all of this.
